ANI, LE MONACHE DI YAQEN GAR

L‘affresco di una contraddittoria “cittadella bud– dista” che il governo cinese vuole demolire.
A metà degli anni ‘80, il maestro buddista Achung Lama si è insediato sugli altopiani del Tibet orien-tale, con l’intenzione di meditare in solitudine ecostruire un monastero. In poco tempo centinaiadi pellegrini l’hanno seguito costruendo un ac-campamento di baracche. Oggi Yaqen Gar è unasterminata bidonville senza fognature e acqua corrente che ospita oltre 20 mila monaci, per due terzi donne unite dalla stessa voglia di emancipa- zione, una libertà che sanno di poter trovare solo nella vita monacale, in questo luogo sacro che non esiste sulle mappe e che il governo intende radere al suolo.

In the mid-1980s the Buddhist master Achung Lamawent to live in the highlands of East Tibet where he plan-ned to meditate in isolation and build a monastery. In notime hundreds of followers turned up and an encamp-ment rose up there. Today the town Yaqen Gar is an overflowing shanty town without water or sewage works home to over 20 thousand monks, two thirds of whom are female. These women are united by a desire for eman- cipation, a freedom that is only accessible through mo- nastery life in this off-the-map but sacred place that thegovernment intends to demolish.

She has worked on the production ethnographic documentaries since 2009 and in 2010 she completed a TV programme on mountain life for the Aosta Valley section of the national broadcaster RAI. Since 2016 she has created documentaries for RAI 3’s GEO television series.
