Un drastico appello per la salvaguardiadell‘orso polare e del suo habitat
Sono passati dieci anni, da quando l‘orso pola-re è stato inserito nella lista delle specie protette a rischio di estinzione, ma nulla di significativo èstato fatto per proteggerlo. Un numero sempre maggiore di esemplari muore di fame, costretto per lunghi periodi sulla terraferma a causa del ri- scaldamento climatico, che riduce costantemente i ghiacci su cui gli orsi catturano il loro alimento base: le foche.

Ten years have gone by since the polar bear was added to the list of protected species threatened with extinctionbut no real, effective action has been taken to save this creature. An ever-increasing number of bears die fromhunger, stranded on dry land because of global warming,which is wiping out the glaciers where the polar bear’s main source of food is found: seals.

Max Lowe is a well-known photographer and filmmakerwho had already gone to the ends of the Earth beforehe could walk, moving from his birthplace in Montana to the Antarctic thanks to two great American climbers: his father Alex Lowe (sadly lost to an avalanche on Shisha-pangma) and his stepfather Conrad Anker. He is a key contributor to the National Geographic and his films suchas Slacker, Sky Migrations, Amo and Adventure Not War have achieved fame.
