Il 17 giugno 2019 sette alpinisti stavano salendo sul versante sud del Lions MelvinJones, nella catena dell’Hindukush. Quattroitaliani e tre pakistani (Tarcisio Bellò, LucaMorellato, David Bergamin, Tino Toldo,Imyiaz Ahmmad, Nadeema Sahar, Shakeela Numà), uniti assieme in un progetto solidale umanitario che da dieci anni opera a favore delle popolazioni locali. Imprevedibilmenteil pendio nevoso è collassato trascinandodrammaticamente a valle gli scalatori per ben seicento metri di dislivello. La guida ditrekking Imtyiaz Ahmmad è deceduta nellacaduta. Gli altri sono miracolosamente so- pravvissuti e tornati alle tende in attesa dei soccorsi giunti il giorno successivo. In Italia la notizia ha avuto enorme impatto, familiari e migliaia di appassionati hanno vissuto una notte di trepidazione per la loro sorte.
On June 17 2019, seven climbers were ascending the south face of Lions Melvin Jones in the Hindukush moun-tain chain. Four Italians and three Pakistanis (Tarcisio Bellò, Luca Morellato, David Bergamin, Tino Toldo, Imyi-az Ahmmad, Nadeema Sahar, Shakeela Numà) unitedtogether in a humanitarian solidarity project in aid of localcommunities. Without warning, the snow-laden slope collapsed sen- ding the climbers hurtling six hundred metres downinto the valley. Imtyiaz Ahmmad who was guiding the expedition, died in the fall. By some miracle the othersix climbers managed to survive and they returned to their encampment to await the arrival of the emergencyservices. This news had an enormous impact in Italy asfamily members and thousands of followers passed ahorrible night wondering if the men were alive or dead.

La carriera alpinistica di Tarcisio Bellò si distingue persalite di spicco sulle Alpi (dal Bianco alle Dolomiti) e di-verse salite extraeuropee, tra cui l’Everest, il Dhalaugiri e l’Alpamayo. Nel 2000 comincia la sua avventura pa-kistana, con l’inizio dell’attività esplorativa dell’Hindukush(sale sei 6000 inviolati) e di solidarietà verso il popolo diGotholti, in Ishkoman valley. L’attività umanitaria verso ilpopolo pakistano ha assunto un ruolo sempre più centra- le nelle sue scelte alpinistiche e di vita.
Tarcisio Bello’s career stands out for his high-profile ascents in the Alps (from Mont Blanc to the Dolomites)and other summits beyond Europe such as Everest,Dhalaugiri and Alpamayo. In 2000 he began his forays into Pakistan where he undertook exploratory alpinism of the Hindukush (conquering three 6000 metre high un-climbed peaks) whereby he also formed a solid bond with the Gotholti folk of the Ishkoman valley. His humanitarian work in support of the people of Pakistan has become the focus of his life and his mountaineering trips.
