The extreme desert explorer Max Calderan is the first person to cross the boundless Rub’ al Khali on foot. 1,000 kilometres of loose sand, untouched by humans. The area is marked by unstable dunes up to 250 metres high and lashed by daily sandstorms. There are poisonous snakes, scorpions; the heat is torrid and there is scarcely any rainfall. One of the Earth’s last unexplored frontiers, this is a place full of mystery, legend and untold secrets, it is the largest send desert on the world known as the “Empty Quarter” or Rub’ al Khali in Arabic.
