Eighty years after the freezing winter of '43, a forgotten historical event resurfaces: the summer residence of the bishop of Grosseto is rented to a fascist hierarch to make it an internment camp. From there transit a hundred Jews destined for the lagers, especially Auschwitz. The mountains are in the two years preceding the Liberation, in Maremma as in Valtournenche, the place of refuge and actions of partisans, the scene of bloody clashes and summary executions. Naspini, in dialogue with Corrado Binel, president of the Historical Institute of the Resistance and Contemporary Society in Valle d'Aosta, takes us back to a time of difficult and necessary choices, to the tragedies that devastated villages and towns in the "high lands" and that we have a duty not to forget.

Sacha Naspini was born in Grosseto in 1976. He is the author of numerous short stories and novels, including Le Case del malcontento (2018 - City of Lugnano Prize, City of Cave Prize, finalist for the City of Rieti Prize; a TV series is being developed from this novel), Ossigeno (2019 – Premio Pinocchio Sherlock, Città di Collodi), I Cariolanti (2020), Nives (2020), La voce di Robert Wright (2021), Le nostre assenze (2022). Villa del seminario (edizioni E/O, 2023) was submitted to the Strega Prize. It is translated or being translated in England, Canada, the United States, France, Greece, South Korea, China, Croatia, Russia, Spain, Germany and Egypt. He writes for film.
