JABI BARAIAZARRA

Acting president of IAMF (International Alliance for Mountain Film), Jabi Baraiazarra is the founder and director of the Mendi Film Festival, which he created with Eduardo Martínez in 2008. A mountaineer, he has a degree in Basque philology and a master’s degree in audiovisual communication. As a cameraman and director, he has worked on short films and documentaries, including his work with brothers Iker and Eneko Pou. With them, he created the “7 Walls, 7 Continents” project, documentaries that offered viewers the chance to accompany Basque mountaineers on their climbs in iconic places on the 7 continents. The best way to infect audiences with all their passion for the mountains is undoubtedly the organization of the BMFF (Bilbao Mendi Film Festival).

GIUSEPPE CEDERNA

The son of writer and politician Antonio Cederna and grandson of writer and journalist Camilla Cederna, he made his debut as a film actor in 1982 with Luigi Comencini’s “Cercasi Gesù”, but of course he is world-renowned in the role of co-starring alongside Abbatantuono in Gabriele Salvatores’ “Mediterraneo,” which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Alongside his film and literary activities, he also does theater work, with public reading shows such as “In cammino. Storie per sentirsi vivi e camminare a testa alta” (2004), based on his book “Il Grande Viaggio”. For his performance in “Hammamet,” he received a nomination as best supporting actor at the David di Donatello 2021. A mountaineering enthusiast, by means of televisions placed in the various exhibition halls, he fulfills the role of virtual guide at the National Mountain Museum in Turin.

JOANA FRESU DE AZEVEDO

Africanist by training, she has already turned her passion for cinema into her profession for several years. A collaborator of the Porretta Film Festival, Animaphix International Animated Film Festival and member of the AFIC – Associazione Festival Italiani di Cinema (Italian Film Festivals Association) Board of Directors, she is also a consultant for several other film events in the areas of festival fundraising and management of public and private funding calls. She was coordinator, in the implementation and launch phase, of the national and international short film platform Myreload, conceived by Sedicicorto Forlì International Film Festival and ShorTS International Film Festival in collaboration with Mymovies.it She is in charge of promotion and support in social and press strategies for some short films. She collaborates and writes for in-depth film websites and co-founded the website Filmaltrove.it, for which she is editorial editor.

 

CAI JURY

Monica Brenga, a graduate in Architecture, has been working for more than 20 years in the field of protected areas, dealing with the construction and coordination of projects aimed at the conservation of environmental, natural and cultural heritages. Creative by nature, passionate about art, graphics and illustration, she was elected in 2016 among the members of the operational structure “Center for Cinematography and Cinematheque” (CCC) of CAI, which, since this year, she chairs. With Director Nicoletta Favaron, she made the films “Oltre l’Orizzonte” in 2017 and ” Sentiero Italia” (2019). He has represented the CAI CCC on the jury of several film festivals and awards.

Christian Roccati, an explorer and adventure writer, author of 33 books, 1,500 articles and more than 600 lectures, is the manager of Extreme Team by Kailas, active with mountaineering and trekking expeditions to the most extreme places on the Planet. He has presented the International Outdoor Film Festivals: BANFF Mountain, Reel Rock and Ocean. He has authored short films and participated in the creation of internationally awarded feature films. Graduate in History, Academic and Mountaineering Testimonial of GISM, Ice Scuba Diver, National Climbing Instructor, 8 podiums at Italian Athletics Championships and several records. Practices, in opening and repetition, every outdoor discipline.

Giorgio Viana, retired RAI cameraman. Specialized in sports filming particularly in Helicopter and Motorcycle. He has covered many important events for RaiSport: 12 Summer and Winter Olympics, 22 Giro d’Italia, 8 Tour de France , 8 Alpine Skiing World Championships, 4 Nordic Skiing World Championships, 4 Athletics World Championships, 4 Marathon des Sables, the 100 Km of Senegal, 5 Ultra Marathons in Jordan, The Mediterranean Sea Race (embarked with skipper Paul Kajard), 1 IDITAROAD in Alaska, 2 times in Nepal at Everest base camp with CNR, Kilimanjaro following the Courmayeur Guides. He has often worked during events held in the Aosta Valley, on Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Cervino and Gran Paradiso.
